Kate’s Thoughts From Guatemala English and Spanish

I want to share with you all an image that has stayed with me since returning home from Guatemala. We had such a beautiful experience there and my heart was touched by the mothers and their children. Everywhere we went, the little children were wrapped in the folds of their mother’s skirts. It was a place of safety, love and belonging for them. 

This image became even more poignant for me when we visited the newly-dedicated Coban, Guatemala Temple, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When we entered, we saw a large mural of the Savior with two children tucked in the folds of His robes. It melted my heart. He is our source of safety and protection, love and belonging. Recently, as I studied the scriptures, I read these verses:

“Oh Lord, wilt thou encircle me around in the robe of thy righteousness!”

“I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever.” 

I love the message of these verses! 

I learned so much from these beautiful Guatemalan mothers and the powerful impact they are having on their children and families. Just as they are a source of love, safety, and security for their children, our Savior is the source of all that is good in our lives as well.

Quiero compartir con ustedes una imagen que me ha marcado desde que regresé de Guatemala. Tuvimos una experiencia tan hermosa allí y me conmovieron profundamente las madres y sus hijos. Dondequiera que íbamos, los niños pequeños estaban envueltos en los rebozos de sus madres. Era un lugar de seguridad, amor y pertenencia para ellos. 

Esta imagen se volvió aún más conmovedora para mí cuando visitamos el recién inaugurado Templo de Cobán, Guatemala, de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días. Al entrar, vimos un gran mural del Salvador con dos niños arropados entre los pliegues de su manto. Me conmovió profundamente. Él es nuestra fuente de seguridad y protección, amor y pertenencia. Recientemente, al estudiar las Escrituras, leí estos versículos:

“¡Oh Señor, envuélveme con el manto de tu justicia!”

“En ti he confiado y en ti confiaré para siempre”.

¡Me encanta el mensaje de estos versículos!

Aprendí muchísimo de estas hermosas madres guatemaltecas y del poderoso impacto que están teniendo en sus hijos y familias. Así como ellas son una fuente de amor, seguridad y protección para sus hijos, nuestro Salvador también es la fuente de todo lo bueno en nuestras vidas.
