An Abundance Built by Small Waves

Last month you were reminded about the upcoming Giving Tuesday. We are excitedly looking forward to this momentous day of generosity, but we are also hoping that you will want to give throughout the year with a monthly donation. Even if you feel it is a comparatively small amount, it will make a huge difference.

We would also invite you to gather some friends and share the mission of Big Ocean Women with them. Host a Power Hour! If you want help with that, please reach out to us at bigoceanwomen@gmail.com

Here are some of the specific projects that we are fundraising for at this time:

Our Jos, Nigeria Pioneer WAVE wants to host a Bible-based youth summit and educational conference for 100 teen moms. Helping these teens recognize their worth and potential leads to their ability to provide for themselves and their children. Many of these girls have become mothers because of situations beyond their control. You can help them gain control over their futures. Just $500 will cover the expenses for the entire conference.

Also in Jos, where we have an official membership of 140 women, and over 300 attending monthly meetings, the leaders would love to be able to provide a small Christmas food gift for those members in need. Rice, seasonings, and spaghetti will make sure they’re not going hungry over the holiday. $1,150 would cover the costs for this gift and would provide for these women who do so much!

Our Jinja, Uganda Hope WAVE likewise wants to continue to help young single mothers. They have been helping with literacy and sewing skills and need to be able to continue to rent their room, buy two more sewing machines, and sewing supplies. For all of this, they need $1,800 for the upcoming year.

Our Masaka, Uganda WAVE has a plan to help members become self-reliant through hairdressing. Women with these skills will be able to help support their families and lift others around them. To rent a room for a year, pay for training and supplies, they need $2,460.

We are ready to start the second, third, and fourth WAVEs in Guatemala! There has been such success with the mothers and preschoolers learning together that we want to replicate this project for more women and children. For the astronomically low price of $1,686 for each WAVE, we can provide materials and a teacher for a year to help these mothers and children gain the power of reading that will unlock so much for their futures!

In a partnership with Africompassion, our Tanzania WAVE and Sustainable Community is setting up to be able to teach sewing. They need two sewing machines, supplies, tables, chairs, and to be able to pay a teacher. All they need to be able to do that is $950.

Our Gambia WAVE is working on a maternity ward Christmas project. We want to help them with $500 to help pay for clothes and baby supplies.

In the Dammeron Valley in St. George, UT, the Sustainable Garden Community continues to help families and wants to expand with 10 fruit trees and 5 bee hives. They need $2,000.

The Buongo, Uganda WAVE continues to teach women the skill of handmade beads as they learn self-reliance. With just $500 they can continue to help with materials and pay an instructor.

Additionally, we have regional leaders in Africa that need our help to be able to travel to the new locations and train new WAVE leaders in person. We are looking to raise $8,000 to go toward these efforts. You may look at these amounts and feel like your ability is insignificant, but it is not. Small waves work together to make the big ocean. You make a difference as you contribute to Big Ocean Women.
