“It is this belief in a power larger than myself and other than myself which allows me to venture into the unknown and even the unknowable.” – Maya Angelou
Being a woman of faith means that I believe in miracles. Faith traditions, in general, have miraculous events that they point to, and which adherents believe in at their core. I am a Christian, therefore I believe in the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ and the miraculous reality of His resurrection. Everything else that I believe, or that my faith tradition teaches, hinges on my accepting those miracles.
Because I believe in those foundational miracles, it follows that I believe that more miracles have and will, can and do, happen. Sometimes it is easy to recognize a miracle; sometimes it is easy to reason it away or wonder if it really is a miracle. As women of faith, we must recognize the miracles in our lives and give thanks for them. We must expect and watch for miracles in the work we do.
“Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.” — Helen Keller
As a woman of faith, doing good is my responsibility. I believe part of my purpose in life is to share the love and hope that come to my life from my faith. While that does sometimes look like teaching from scripture or sharing testimony, it is also loving and serving those around me. In small acts of kindness or service, you can build others up and may even be the miracle that they need.
“It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.” –Mother Teresa
Faith is what inspires us to do good, and it can also give us strength when we face challenges and opposition. Faith means having courage to keep going when it is hard, to keep serving when it is unappreciated, to stand for what is right, even if you feel like you’re standing alone.
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” – Anne Frank
Because I am a woman of faith, I hold fast to what I believe and use that to make my everyday choices. I believe in miracles and expect to see them in my life. I know I have a responsibility to love and serve people around me, and I can rely on my faith to give me courage when I need it.
