We are so excited to announce the following five WAVEs have graduated from the Big Ocean Women WAVE training and planned and carried out their first independent projects and are now officially recognized and certified! Congratulations to these wonderful women!

Here are some responses from three of the WAVEs to a few questions we asked about their experiences. Watch for responses from the other two WAVEs in the future.

Uganda Busia WAVE

Q: What is something valuable you have learned through this process of becoming a wave that you wish everyone knew.

A: One important and valuable thing that I have learned through this process of becoming a wave that I wish everyone should know is RENDERING SERVICE AND EXPECTING NOTHING IN RETURN. In this I mean that when we serve others, we should know that we are serving Heavenly Father’s children, and we should do it with a loving heart. Service heals, and it shows that one loves others. Serving others does not mean that one needs to be paid before helping others rather than being a free service (service is to be given unselfishly with no thought of personal gain or reward).

Q: What have you learned about yourself?

A: I have learned that through helping and serving others, I can gain leadership roles and responsibilities that could help me not only in what I love doing, but in my family too.

Personal growth: My empathy and compassion can help me build strong relationships and connections.

Mentorship: I have learned to share my experiences and wisdom with others who could benefit especially from my local communities that I volunteer in.

Q: How would you encourage other women to lead?

A: I must help them know that leadership is not about being perfect but it’s about being brave. Then secondly, one should believe in themselves and their abilities. Let them know that your voice matters and it deserves to be heard. Lead them by example, show confidence, resilience and determination in my own life and work. Address biases, challenges and stereotypes and biases that may hold them back.

Q: What is a tenet that is most valuable to you?

A: That’s FAITH.

Q: What is something valuable you have learned through this process of becoming a WAVE that you wish everyone knew?

A: Among the many things I have learned through this process is studying the tenets, consistency, and teamwork. We didn’t give up even when things were not coming up quickly, and with teamwork, it’s all about understanding and having one common goal.

Q: What have you learned about yourself?

A: I have learned that I am important, I can be useful, and can be an instrument of change in my community.

Q: How would you encourage other women to lead?

A: I would encourage them to be empathetic and in the Saviour’s way.

Q: What is a tenet that is most valuable to you?

A: The most valuable tenet to me is Global Sisterhood. How we are able to connect as global sisters to lift each other means a lot to me.

Q: What is something valuable you have learned through this process of becoming a WAVE that you wish everyone knew?

A: I have learned to trust God more, become patient and persevere in hard times or when things seem not to be working out.

Q: What have you learned about yourself?

A: I have learned to trust in the help of the Holy Spirit and depend upon the words of God. My true power lies in the love of Christ in me which helps me to live and do his bidding.

Q: How would you encourage other women to lead?

A: I would encourage every woman to lead with love and without judgement, remain faithful in every responsibility. She should be patient and always ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to go through all the processes of life.

Q: What is a tenet that is most valuable to you?

A: The tenet that is most valuable to me is the tenet that says ”WE RECOGNIZE AND FOLLOW OUR INTERNAL COMPASS TO SPEAK AND ACT WITH INTEGRITY”. This tenet for me, means, ”Recognizing the Power of the Holy Spirit in us which has the ability to Change us to do the Will of God (good works) and Allow the glory of God to be Seen in us”, (Ref; John 14:26; Acts 1:8; 2 Timothy 1:7; Romans 8:1-2; 1 Corinthians 2:12-16).

P: ¿Qué es algo valioso que has aprendido durante este proceso de convertirte en un WAVE y qué te gustaría que todos supieran?

R: Algo importante y valioso que he aprendido durante este proceso de participar en un WAVE, y que deseo que todos sepan, es prestar servicio sin esperar nada a cambio. Con esto quiero decir que, cuando servimos a los demás, debemos saber que servimos a los hijos del Padre Celestial y debemos hacerlo con amor. El servicio sana y demuestra amor por los demás. Servir a los demás no significa que se deba cobrar antes de ayudar, sino que es un servicio gratuito (el servicio debe brindarse desinteresadamente, sin buscar recompensas ni beneficios personales).

P: ¿Qué has aprendido sobre ti mismo?

R: He aprendido que al ayudar y servir a los demás, puedo acceder a roles de liderazgo y responsabilidades que podrían beneficiarme no solo en lo que me apasiona, sino también en mi familia.

Crecimiento personal: Mi empatía y compasión me ayudan a construir relaciones y conexiones sólidas.

Mentoría: He aprendido a compartir mis experiencias y sabiduría con otras personas que podrían beneficiarse, especialmente de las comunidades locales en las que participo como voluntaria.

P: ¿Cómo animarías a otras mujeres a liderar?

R: Debo ayudarlas a entender que el liderazgo no se trata de ser perfecta, sino de ser valiente. En segundo lugar, una debe creer en sí misma y en sus capacidades. Hazles saber que tu voz importa y merece ser escuchada. Predica con el ejemplo, demuestra confianza, resiliencia y determinación en mi vida y en mi trabajo. Aborda los prejuicios, los desafíos, los estereotipos y los prejuicios que puedan frenarlas.

P: ¿Cuál es el principio más valioso para ti?

R: La FE.

P: ¿Qué es algo valioso que has aprendido durante este proceso de convertirte en un WAVE y qué te gustaría que todos supieran?

R: Entre las muchas cosas que he aprendido en este proceso están el estudio de los principios, la constancia y el trabajo en equipo. No nos rendimos ni siquiera cuando las cosas no salían bien, y en el trabajo en equipo, todo se trata de comprender y tener un objetivo común.

P: ¿Qué has aprendido sobre ti misma?

R: He aprendido que soy importante, que puedo ser útil y que puedo ser un instrumento de cambio en mi comunidad.

P: ¿Cómo animarías a otras mujeres a liderar?

R: Las animaría a ser empáticas y a seguir el ejemplo del Salvador.

P: ¿Cuál es el principio más valioso para ti?

R: El principio más valioso para mí es la Hermandad Global. La forma en que podemos conectar como hermanas globales para apoyarnos mutuamente significa mucho para mí.

P: ¿Qué es algo valioso que has aprendido durante este proceso de convertirte en un WAVE y qué te gustaría que todos supieran?

R: He aprendido a confiar más en Dios, a ser paciente y a perseverar en los momentos difíciles o cuando las cosas parecen no salir bien.

P: ¿Qué has aprendido sobre ti misma?

R: He aprendido a confiar en la ayuda del Espíritu Santo y a depender de la palabra de Dios. Mi verdadero poder reside en el amor de Cristo en mí, que me ayuda a vivir y a cumplir su voluntad.

P: ¿Cómo animarías a otras mujeres a liderar?

R: Animaría a todas las mujeres a liderar con amor y sin juzgar, a ser fieles en cada responsabilidad. Deben ser pacientes y pedir siempre la ayuda del Espíritu Santo para atravesar todos los procesos de la vida.

P: ¿Cuál es el principio más valioso para ti?

R: El principio más valioso para mí es el que dice: “RECONOCEMOS Y SEGUIMOS NUESTRA BRÚJULA INTERNA PARA HABLAR Y ACTUAR CON INTEGRIDAD”. Para mí, este principio significa: “Reconocer el poder del Espíritu Santo en nosotras, que tiene la capacidad de transformarnos para hacer la voluntad

de Dios (buenas obras) y permitir que la gloria de Dios se manifieste en nosotras” (Ref. Juan 14:26; Hechos 1:8; 2 Timoteo 1:7; Romanos 8:1-2; 1 Corintios 2:12-16).
