Currents July 2026

What is the last decision you made? Each of us makes innumerable choices every day, usually without thinking twice about them. It is often only when a choice has a particularly powerful impact that we stop to think about the gravity of our decisions. As this month’s tenet says:

We understand that each choice we make has a ripple effect and can either build or destroy. We seek and promote choices that affirm life and increase internal liberation. Peaceful, life-affirming choices made through one’s internal compass will result in deep satisfaction and lasting joy.

We are always free to choose, regardless of our situations or circumstances. This may be difficult to fathom at first, especially if there have been decisions made for you, or someone else’s decisions have impacted you in negative ways. However, there is nothing anyone can do to take away your freedom to choose your own thoughts and attitudes.

Our authors this month explore this tenet through their own perspectives and experiences. Emmalisa describes how we can find freedom, rather than restriction, when we embrace our ability to choose. Similarly, Katrina explores how the power of choice brings freedom and a sense of control in overwhelming situations. Shelli ponders the concept of choosing a neighborly attitude, while Norma shares how her experiences have inspired her to choose to slow down. Austin writes about how we can choose our thoughts, particularly regarding the judgment of others, and Eliza urges us to consider the consequences of our choices.

In addition, we are privileged to hear from Emily as she spotlights Big Ocean Women’s inspirational Eldoret, Kenya WAVE.

As you explore the articles in this newsletter, we hope you will find inspiration and appreciation as you reflect on your own freedom to choose.
